The members’ undertake to comply with the following principles in their work:

Not all people have their daily bread – and yet there is food in abundance. The panels in Germany strive for a balance. The purpose of the plates is to distribute quality food which can not be used in the economic process to people in need.

Principle 1
The boards collect excess food which is still usable according to the legal regulations, and dispense it to the needy.

Implementing Rule:
The TAFELN can also output articles of daily use the focus must be on collecting and dispensing Food.  Delivery is free of charge or against a small fee. Necessary cost contributions should be as   low   as possible. On the one hand, the cost contribution must be based on the social mission of the TAFELNs and, on the other, the precarious situation of the recipients of our Services. The determination of need is based on the provisions of § 53, taking into account local conditions, and is determined individually by each board.
Production of foodstuffs is carried out in compliance with the Food Hygiene Ordinance (LMHV) and the Infection Protection Act.

Principle 2
The work of TAFELN is fundamentally honorary. It can be supported – if possible and necessary – by differently financed and subsidized employees.

Principle 3
The work of the boards is supported by donors as well as sponsors. Plates look forward to material, money and time donations. The purchase of food is permitted if it is carried out by the donor and is passed on to the tables (donation in kind) and / or for projects and events (for example children’s, seniors’ projects, Christmas parties, panel days).

Principle 4
The panels work independently of political parties and confessions. The panels help all those who need help.

Principle 5
The name “Tafel” is legally protected as a registered trademark by Tafel Deutschland e.V.

Implementing Rule:

The name of the association or project is in principle the place name in connection with the prefixed or trailing name “TAFEL” and possibly e.V., e.g. Tafel Berlin e.V. or Berliner Tafel e.V.
Tables in the sponsor’s name may use the name of the bearer as additional information.
Different designations require the express consent of Tafel Deutschland e.V.

ame “Tafel” is to be applied for in writing at the Tafel Deutschland e.V. and will be issued exclusively to legal persons for specific projects.
The logo of the Tafel Deutschland e.V. should be taken over from the local  in form and color with the respective place name without any change.

Principle 6
The work of the panels is predominantly local. The panels respect regional protection without competing with one another.

Implementing Rule:
I
n case of inconsistencies in the regional panel work, For example in the case of new boarding-panels or in the case of already existing panels, an amicable solution should be sought in the interests of the needy on the ground.
If this is not possible, the relevant national association is to be consulted.
The panels exchange information and experiences regionally and supraregional.
The panels help each other with the aim of effectively supporting the local panel work.

Principle 7
The principles of Tafel Deutschland e.V. are guidelines for the work ofin Germany. The declares by its membership in the Tafel Deutschland e.V. and the signature the recognition and adherence to the “Tafel principles”.

Principle 8
The Tafel Deutschland e.V. observes the observance of the Tafel principles. In the event of non-compliance with the Tafel principles, the Tafel Deutschland eV, in consultation with the responsible national association, applies for a procedure for the disqualification of the name “Tafel” and, if applicable, a procedure for the exclusion from the  Tafel Deutschland e.V.
